Belleville, Ill.—March 21, 2017—Colon cancer diagnoses in people under age 50 have been steadily increasing, disrupting the careers of more people during their prime earning years, according to Allsup, a nationwide Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) representation company.

Allsup representatives will be on hand at the Colon Cancer Alliance St. Louis Undy Run/Walk in Forest Park Saturday to provide information on SSDI, which is often a lifeline for individuals who cannot continue working due to cancer. SSDI benefits include a monthly income based on what an individual has paid into the system and access to Medicare.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosis in SSDI applications. According to the Colon Cancer Alliance, colon cancer incidence and mortality rates are increasing in the young-onset population while decreasing in those over 50.

Veterans who have been diagnosed with cancer may be eligible for both SSDI and VA disability benefits. An Allsup VA-accredited claims agent will also be at the St. Louis Undy Run to answer questions and provide resources.

Cancer patients and survivors who have not been able to work or anticipate not being able to work for 12 months or more and need information on applying for disability, can use empower® by Allsup, an online tool that quickly determines the  likelihood of qualifying for SSDI benefits.
