BIA-MO Gets Real about Brain Injury Awareness
By Brain Injury Association of Missouri Staff
Today, March 11, the Brain Injury Association of Missouri (BIA-MO) is hosting our Sports Concussions: Facts, Fallacies and New Frontiers – Refresher education in Columbia, Missouri. This “refresher” is a condensed version of the full seminar that was held in St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri, earlier this month.
These educational programs focus on recognizing the signs and symptoms of a possible concussion and the continuum of care related to concussions. The discussions include Return to Learn and Return to Play protocols, current research related to concussion, management of concussions and the prevention of concussions. Those encouraged to participate are paid and volunteer coaches, school personnel of nurses, PE teacher and administrators, and licensed athletic trainers.
The Sports Concussions: Facts, Fallacies and New Frontiers education expanded beyond the seminars to include presentations to members of the Missouri Park and Recreation Association and help reduce risks of concussions for youth participating in recreational sports leagues.
Additionally, the Brain Injury Association of Missouri’s Survivor & Family Seminar is set for Saturday, March 23, 2019, in Springfield, Missouri. This seminar provides information, support and practical suggestions for individuals impacted by a traumatic brain injury. The same sessions also will be offered on Saturday, April 13, in Kansas City, Missouri.
For Brain Injury Awareness Month in March, BIA-MO is posting a Brain Injury Fact of the Day on our BIA-MO website, Facebook and Twitter. The Brain Injury Fact of the Day will also be visible on various agriculture, healthcare and media websites in partnership with the Missouri AgrAbility Project.
