Allsup Expert Reassures Louisiana TV Audience In Social Security News Story
HOUMA, Louisiana — Allsup expert Steve Perrigo helped to reassure Houma-area residents that essential disability services remain uninterrupted despite the closure of a hearing room inside the local Social Security office.
Perrigo, vice president of Allsup, said the changes primarily affect hearing rooms, not full-service field offices in a news segment on WWL-TV New Orleans. “Most closures affect remote hearing sites, where hearings are now conducted mainly via video and phone,” he said. “As a result, less Social Security office space is needed.”
Recent media reports, including one from The Associated Press, raised concerns about possible Social Security office closures tied to lease decisions under a federal cost-cutting initiative from the Trump administration. Houma was among the listed locations, prompting confusion among residents.
Perrigo emphasized that individuals denied benefits can and should appeal. Allsup, a leading provider of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) representation, continues to assist disability claimants at every step of the SSDI process, including the hearing level.
The Social Security Administration confirmed the closure of the Houma hearing site, a “small hearings PRS” room within the main office, due to the emphasis on scheduling remote hearings. Officials with the Terrebonne Parish government also confirmed the field office in Houma remains open to the public.
